Simulation game in the Bundestag. A look behind the scenes of German politics
The 10th grade of the Berlin Cosmopolitan School had the unique opportunity to take part in a simulation game in the Bundestag before the summer vacation. The students got to spend a whole day at the center of German politics, accompanied by their teachers Robin Williams and Forrest Holmes from the Social Studies department.
The visit to the Reichstag not only gave the class a deep insight into the historical and architectural features of the place, but also gave them a tangible sense of connection to the political process. Often the world of politics seems abstract and difficult to access – but by coming into direct contact on site, it became clear that these institutions belong to all citizens.
A particular highlight of the day was the simulation game, in which the 10th graders had the opportunity to experience the legislative process up close. Accompanied by three highly professional and experienced lecturers, they went through the various stages of committee and parliamentary procedures. Our learners impressed with their commitment and active participation in the simulated parliamentary processes.
We would like to thank the entire Bundestag team and the accompanying lecturers for this valuable experience. It not only deepened our students’ understanding of the political process, but also awakened their enthusiasm and interest in political issues.
