Eight Years of Spanish, One Unforgettable Night at the Theatre

Fifteen Grade 9 students from Berlin Cosmopolitan School recently enjoyed a unique cultural experience as part of their Spanish language studies: a trip to the theatre to see a classic Spanish play. This excursion marked a special moment, celebrating the culmination of eight years of learning Spanish at school.
In previous years, Spanish students had the opportunity to go to the cinema, but this was the first time a theatre performance was included in the program—and it was a great success. The students appreciated the play and were able to follow the storyline and understand the plot, even if they didn’t catch every word the actors said. In preparation for the visit, the class had explored the theme and character development of the play, which helped them engage more deeply with the live performance.

Watching this iconic piece of Spanish literature on stage not only provided a deeper cultural insight but also served as an important lesson: it’s possible to enjoy and understand a film, a book, or a theatre play even without knowing 100% of the language. This trip served as both a celebration of their learning journey and an encouragement to continue exploring the language beyond the classroom.
