Grade 4 – Printmaking – Notan

22nd June, 2016

We looked at the Japanese design concept of the Notan which involves the placement of light and dark elements to create balanced compositions. Students first made a Notan with shapes cut from a black card square and glued onto white paper. Another was then made with foamboard cut and glued onto a wooden board. This was used on a printing press to make black prints on white paper.
