Grade 4 – Food Webs

30th March, 2016

For the food webs unit, we first all looked at animal camouflage. Pupils were given a color copy of a landscape photograph and asked to draw the outline of a suitable animal for that environment, cut it out then with colored pencils, use appropriate texture, tone and color to help blend it into the background.

As the class focussed on ocean animals and their habitats, in art we looked at blending colours to paint the zones of the ocean gradually getting darker on the inside of a cardboard box that each pupil constructed. The shape and color of various ocean animals were studied, drawn, coloured, cut out and pasted onto the background to make a diorama of the ocean.

Subsequently, each pupil chose one ocean animal to focus on and after making a 3d sketch in clay, constructed a 3d version of their animal out of cardboard and paper mache. These were painted and displayed in the classrooms.
