Grade 4 – Explorers

For the unit on explorers, we looked at painted portraits of famous explorers, paying attention to the pose, facial expression, clothes, objects and backgrounds chosen and what they communicated about the kind of exploration undertaken. Pupils were then asked to draw and colour a portrait of themselves as an explorer, considering where they would go and what they would wear and take with them.
